It’s a
reality TV show. It’s big brother. It’s not just a Nigerian show. It wasn’t
even conceived in Nigeria. It started years back in ...and has spread across
countries and continents.
What a nice
idea! The show would bring youths of different states and background together.
Initially I thought they were meant to compete until I read closely and
discovered they were meant to have fun but not at the expense of other
housemate.
But how will
this– the big brother reality TV show - happen? A certain number of contestants
will have to live with each other for twelve weeks – about three months. The
rule says no electronics, no writing materials and so on.One day when I had to
see things for myself and I saw a woman playing guitar. The rule allows that
too.
The
organisers of the show and the sponsors promise to give the winner a huge
amount of money. The runners up would also go home with something big.
25 million! What a way to cover up destruction
Let’s face
it now.
You put
young people in a room and deprive them of everything they need to have fun yet
you want them to have fun, my brother, what sort of fun do you want them to
have? They stay together, and even strip down to p*nties (both male and female).
They also undress on cam and also sleep together. What sort of fun could they
possibly have outside orgies? Depriving them of certain tools means majority of
them will be operating with idle minds and everyone knows what that can produce.
Yeah they do certain things. Things they don’t enjoy is as good as keeping them
idle. It will produce the same effect.
They play
games. What sort of games? A game where the other person dares you. According
to the rules of the game, if the lot falls on you, you will have to do what the
other person tells you to do. What do they say most of the time? They ask a
fellow housemate to kiss the other passionately. Yes they want to watch
something because they are bored ( with smiling faces).
And the worst part is
that it is a game that certain group of youths watching the show will pick up
that game. Imagine the impact of that in a small room with three to five loose
Nigerian youths.
We cannot
deny the fact that those that watch and enjoy football have something for
football, the same goes for news, and other TV programs. We have seen the
impact in our environment. Now what would we say of those who enjoy watching
the immorality and lameness of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show? Forget
how you feel now and face the facts.
Its bad
enough when you know the bad effects of what you are signing up for. You could
do it but secretly because you don’t want others to join in the destruction.
(It’s the truth!) It’s then worse when you have no idea the impact of something
you have accepted into your life.
Nigerian youths are simply being destroyed
bit by bit and they don’t even know about it. The program is rated +18.
Firstly, we don’t even know how much that can help Nigerians. Those ratings
were made by developed countries. Their youths would have developed mature
minds. How many Nigerians attain that by 18?
We can’t
just continue being so careless. The reason we are able to have a country,
state, town, even the streets we walk on day and night is because there are
people in some places who are being careful. According to wikipedia, Efe is 23.
That’s probably what was used to sign up for the “reality” TV show.
Why should a
group of people cover up massive, countrywide abuse and destruction of youths
with 25 million, a scholarship and 500,000. They had sponsors. The TV channels
were not free. The votes were not free. The adverts were not free. Look around
the walls of the house they lived, there where adverts on those walls. A
certain amount of votes was published halfway into the program. You and I
sincerely know that it was higher than that and moreover, the show was just
half done. Imagine the total at the end of the program!
The abuse is
heart-breaking. You technically forcing young people to engage in thing they
wouldn’t do normally and at the end, you give them a token out of your fortune.
Does a
father have to abuse his daughter simply because he brought her into the world
and is the one feeding her? Should a husband be raping the wife simply because
she paid her bride price? It’s not just one youth getting destroyed. It’s like
almost every youth watching TV shows.
There are
people who occasionally come up to say the program is fun, educating and so on.
Who knows the sort of background they have? And the benefits are too small
compared to the damage done. How do you justify killing almost all the crops on
a plot of land simply because you want to plant guava?
We have the
truth. Let’s face it. Before terrorism became full blown and difficult to curb
in this country, it was “Christians fighting Muslims.” Another one has started
– reality TV show.
God help
Nigeria!
Imagine how
many young people would get inspired by watching their mates invent or do
something productive live on TV. We say we are fighting corruption and
encouraging production but the real threat to production and invention is on TV
and nobody is doing anything about is.
Why don’t I
put people in a room to write books or articles? Read and answer questions,
write computer programs, draw, use chemicals, create impressive artwork like the
London bridge or the tower in Paris live on TV?. Instead of that, I have decided
to exploit young people by placing 25 million - money I know I will get back
before the show ends - before them.
It baffles
me that even young children of God are enjoying such programmes. They spend
precious God-given time to talk about it. This is 21st century. The
“devices of the enemy” won’t be the type he used in the time of Noah. He knows
that a human being is a product of what he spends time with. This is why The
Word says abstain from all appearance
of evil.
But some of us want to be professional Christians who feel we can do
what we feel like doing even when the word says something different. We stopped
watching porn, worldly music, movies with scenes of immorality but then came
Big Brother Naija and other similar programmes designed by the enemy to beat
our intelligence and get us caught again. Wake up soldier! But this is simply
the same thing he said to Jesus – bow to me and I will give you all the riches.
It’s no wonder a lot of money comes these days simply doing something stupid
like big brother naija, posing naked for a photo or giving into a young man’s’
demands to date you or sleep with you. He wasn’t bluffing. But in return, he steals
your soul, happiness, brain, dignity and destiny. Well, as those who were
bought by the blood I thought we could be wiser. As for BBN, God help Nigeria.
And God help his children all over the world.
